About Denny Champlin

Described as a contemporary, southwestern artist, Denny could also be catagorized as a colorist, an impressionist, abstractionist or just a guy painting southwest wildlife or landscapes as he sees them.

Some have said that he uses all the wrong colors in just the right way!

His bold interpretations attempt to capture not just the subject at hand, but the emotion and spirit as well.

"I like to look for the abstract shapes and colors in the subject" he says, "and that gives the viewer a fresh new look at what would perhaps be a familiar vision" of an animal, bird or other subject he paints.

He is passionate about design and composition and attempts to "fill the canvas" with an up-close look at the eye-catching center of his attention. Vivid colors - simple lines - and bold brushstrokes combine for the dramatic, high impact of his paintings.

So if a blue buffalo, a pink coyote or a red bear isn't alarming to you..... you may very well have found a painting that will bring you joy for years to come.

Originally from Sioux City, Iowa, Denny has had a lifelong interest in painting. He studied Fine Art and Commercial Art at the University of South Dakota and presently lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His work hangs in private and commercial collections throughout the United States as well as in Europe and Mexico.
